ZOMBIELAND Director Hopes to Bring Crew Back for a Third Movie in 2029: “We’re Starting to Figure That Out”
It’s been six years since Zombieland: Double Tap hit theaters and reunited the gang for another wild, blood-splattered road trip through zombie America. Now, director Ruben Fleischer is already looking ahead to 2029, and he’s hoping that’ll be the year fans finally get Zombieland 3 with the original cast back together again.
In a recent chat with Deadline, Fleischer shared his plans for another round of zombie-slaying mayhem. “I'm hoping that we'll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029,” he said.
“We're starting to talk about that because [the first] one was 2009, and then we did the second one in 2019, and we kind of left that one all saying, 'We'll see you in 10 years.' That's coming up now, and so we're starting to figure that out, so I’m hoping that'll come together.”
The first Zombieland debuted in 2009 and became an instant cult hit, giving us unforgettable rules for surviving the apocalypse and one of the funniest cameos of all time.
A decade later, Zombieland: Double Tap brought back Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, joined by Rosario Dawson as the badass Nevada.
By the end of Double Tap, the gang was alive, reunited, and back on the road, which leaves the door wide open for another adventure.
Considering where the last movie left off, Fleischer has a lot of room to play with in a potential sequel. Whether it’s new survivors, smarter zombies, or another bizarre apocalypse twist, there’s plenty of undead fun still to explore.
Zombieland 3 isn’t the only project Fleischer’s eyeing. He’s also developing a vampire-Western that sounds incredibly cool, describing it as “Unforgiven, if Clint Eastwood was a vampire.”
“I'm really hoping to make that. I feel like the two genres that I dreamed of making were a gangster movie and then a Western. So I'm hoping that I'll get the chance to make a Western,” he explained.
If all goes according to plan, we could be looking at a decade that gives us a blood-soaked vampire-Western and another Zombieland sequel from Fleischer, filled with guns, ghouls, and a whole lot of gore-soaked fun.
