Zooey Deschanel Joins Zachary Levi and Lil Rel Howery in the Cast of Live-Action Film HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON
Zooey Deschanel (New Girl, 500 Days of Summer, Elf) has signed on to star in the live-action adaptation of the classic children’s book Harold and the Purple Crayon. She joins previously cast actors Zachary Levi (Chuck, Shazam!) and Lil Rel Howery (Get Out, Free Guy).
Published in 1955, Crockett Johnson’s book follows Harold, a 4-year-old who, with the power of his crayon, creates worlds around him.
Academy Award nominee Carlos Saldanha (Ice Age, Rio, Ferdinand) will direct the live-action movie from a screenplay by David Guion and Michael Handelman, the writers behind Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Dinner for Schmucks.
Harold and the Purple Crayon has been a long-sought after title, and at different points in time, Spike Jonze, Will Smith, and Steven Spielberg were each attached to make feature adaptations in different capacities.
It will be fun to see this movie get made, and see what they bring to the imaginative story to make it feature-length.
