1997 SHREK Story Reel Footage Surfaces with Chris Farley as Shrek
Before Mike Myers was cast in the role of Shrek in DreamWorks Animation's animated franchise, the role was given to Chris Farley. He had recorded 80% to 90% of Shrek before his untimely death in December of 1997. All his work was shelved, and Myers came in to re-record everything. If you look at the character design for Shrek, you can easily see the influence that Farley had on the character.
Consequence Of Sound actually found some footage of a story reel that was made that features the voice of Farley as Shrek. It's a fascinating watch to see and hear what could have been. It's drastically different from what Myers did because Farley basically uses his own voice. There's no over-the-top Scottish accent.
Just for the hell of it, I also threw in a piece of character design art that shows us how the character was supposed to look in 1997. Check out the video below, and let us know what you think about what could have been.
