Ben Stiller to Direct 'Chicago 7'?

by Joey Paur

This is actually some very cool news!. I think Ben Stiller could do a great job. The movie is called 'The Trial of the Chicago 7' which is about the 1968 riots at the Democratic convention and what happens afterwards. DreamWorks is developing the project. THR reports:

The latest well-known director who has met on the project is Ben Stiller; while the discussions for Stiller to helm the film are very much at the exploratory stage, the actor and DreamWorks are mulling whether such a pairing would work for both parties. A "Chicago" gig would mark a departure for Stiller, who has directed such successful comedies as "Tropic Thunder" and "Zoolander," but has not helmed a serious political picture of this kind before.

Other director that have been attached to the project include Steven Spielberg, and Paul Greengrass. It's been a long time since Stiller has not done anything other than a comedy acting and directing wise. But I think he can do it. He did such an amazing job with 'Tropic Thunder'. I think he needs to do this to help him grow as a filmmaker, stretch his creative legs. Do you think he can pull off a serious film?
