George Romero's 'Island of the Dead' Zombie Pics

by Joey Paur

Venkman here with a couple of new photos from George Romero's new Zombie flick 'Island of the Dead' which is not the official title... yet. I'm a big fan of the Zombie Genre. More of the old school zombie genre. The new stuff is just a re-hash of the old stuff except they look better and there is more blood and carnage. The formula is always the same.

Romero is at it again. You really can't tell by these pics if this movie is going to be good or not. Zombies are zombies but here is your first look at what the Zombies in this new film are going to look like. usatoday reports:

The 2009 release, which is filming in and around Toronto, doesn't have a title yet. But it does have a concept. "It's about tribalism," says Romero about the story that unfolds on a small island a couple of weeks after the original outbreak in 1968's Night of the Living Dead. "There are two factions. It's the idea that even when faced with a crisis, tribal concerns about power control people's motives."

One side wants to kill off zombified loved ones before cannibalistic urges strike. The other would rather wait to see if there is a cure for such cravings. "They want to leave Grandma in the rocking chair for a while longer," he says. "It's not a good idea."

A few characters are reprised from 2007's Diary of the Dead. "Diary was like Night. It had a brooding personality," he says. This one is more like 1978's Dawn of the Dead, "with a lot of action."

This next Zombie film seems to be getting more press and buzz than the last 'Diary of the Dead' movie, so it could do a little better. I think the zombie genre needs a major overhaul, I don't see Romero making that happen. Check out the photos below.

Thanks to usatoday and bloody-disgusting for the pics!
