'Gears of War' Movie gets a director!

by Joey Paur

Gears of War is a XBox 360 video game being adapted into a film. As much as I love this game, I hate that it is getting made before Halo. But it seems that 'Gears of War' has got it self a director. Helming the project for New Line will be Len Wiseman. Len Wiseman has directed both 'Underworld' movies and most recently directed 'Live Free Die Hard'. I really liked the Underworld movies, but I hate what he did with the Die Hard Franchise. It didn't even seem like a Die Hard movie. But he is the chosen one for this film. Here is what Variety Reports:

Chris Morgan is penning a new draft of the actioner that Stuart Beattie originally tackled. Scribe's credits include Universal's upcoming "Wanted" and "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift."

Fanboys have been speculating for nearly a year that Wiseman may helm the project; the game was featured in his most recent pic, "Live Free or Die Hard." But talks with New Line only took place over the last several months.

Wiseman will develop the story with Morgan. The two are also collaborating on the sci-fi action thriller "Shell Game" at Lakeshore Entertainment and Columbia Pictures. Wiseman, who established himself in the biz as an art director on pics like "Godzilla" and "Independence Day," is also producing the third installment of Screen Gems' "Underworld" franchise after having helmed the first two.

"Gears" revolves around a world reeling from an invasion by aliens known as the Locust and a small team of elite soldiers who fight to retake the planet Sera and save its human inhabitants.

The video game story line is pretty shallow, and there isn't much to it. So I imagine the movie story line will be the same unless they decide to make it better. But maybe they will build on what already exists. It was the game play and XBox live action that got me into the game. I am sure the movie will turn out to be pretty cool. As of right now I am more excited about the new 'Gears of War 2' game coming out in November!
