'The Dark Knight' Casting Rumors are out of Control! Cher as Catwoman?

by Joey Paur

Venkman here and that crazy British Telegraph has started another really ad rumor about 'The Dark Knight' sequel casting. This sounds absolutly absurd but they say that the 62 year old actress Cher is in talks to play Catwoman opposite Christian Bale in the next Batman movie.

The Oscar-winner will join a cast that includes Johnny Depp as The Riddler as she plays the whip-carrying burglar. The character has also been played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

A studio executive said: "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years.

Bullshit! I hope people actually don't fall for this crap. Look how they say Johnny Depp is playing The Riddler even though that is a rumor as well. I highly doubt this is true and here is why:

June 29th: Gary Oldman said The Riddler might be the main villain during an interview with slashFilm. He was just thinking out loud, he offers no other information.

July 3rd: David Goyer admitted to BatmanOnFilm that the realistic tone of the Nolanverse would prevent some of the more unrealistic characters from making an appearance: "You're not going to see Clayface in these films"

July 9th: David Goyer told slashFilm ‘There are dozens, if not hundreds of other characters that are possibilities. Everyone says you have you use the Penquin or Catwoman. Well, I completely disagree."

July 21st: Goyer admits to MTV that he has "talked loosely about" the theme for the third film. And of course, the theme has always been connected with the choice of villains.

July 27th: The New York Daily News reported that Angelina Jolie had inquired about playing the role.

August 15th: Variety reports that Warner Bros has offered Christopher Nolan a deal for a third film, but Nolan hasn't yet signed on: "We have no idea where Chris is going with this," Alan Horn said. "We haven't had any conversations with him about it."

So there it is. All of these casting rumors are just crazy. It is fun to speculate don't get me wrong, but to deliver it as news is just not cool. Hell! I could start writing up fake casting news if I wanted to as well and say its true. Nolan has not even signed on to direct the movie yet, who even knows if Bale will be back? I am sure Warner bros is more interested in getting the original talent back first, before they start thinking about casting anyone else.

So it's another rumor with no truth to it at all. Cher? Come on, you could come up with someone better than that.
