Remake Alert! 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'

by Joey Paur

Why oh why does MGM want to remake this comedy classic that starred MIchael Caine and Steve Martin? If you have not seen 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' yet it is a must watch. It is comedic genius. The film was directed by Frank Oz in 1988. of course that was a remake of a 1964 film called 'Bedtime Story' with Marlon Brando. The 80's film was much better. But I seriously doubt Steve Pink the writer and director of 'Accepted' has got the comedic skills to make this movie. 'Accepted' sucked.  Here is what he tells THR:

"Movies like that, which are so brilliant, the problem with writing them is a) you have to beat those jokes, and it's hard, and b), they're so funny that they defy story logic in a way," says Pink, who is also updating the Internet-era context of the cons. "So I'm trying to split the difference. Because the cons have to be sophisticated, but you also want their behavior to be totally outrageous and absurd. So I'm trying to find the balance between keeping it massively funny, but then also make the cons credible."

Sorry to say, but you wont be able to pull it off. You will end up making a sub par film that is trying to hard to be funny and not delivering. I will say that Pink co-wrote 'High Fidelity' and 'Grosse Pointe Blank' and I loved those films, but after 'Accepted' came out it was obviously the other co-writer that made those films good.

I can't get behind this remake. Can you?
