We previously reported that the two main kids in the story have been cast and will be played by Kodi Smit-Mcphee (The Road) and Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass). Joining the two youngsters is Academy Award nominated actor Richard Jenkins (The Visitor). Jenkins is a fantastic actor, and he will play the role of the girls guardian. I have to point out that Variety says he is the girls vampire-hunting guardian, but he doesn't hunt any vampires!? The girl is a vampire and he is her protector and he takes care of her. Sure, he kills other people to do it, but not vampires. Makes me wonder if the people over at Variety have even seen the original Swedish film that the remake is based off of.
If you haven't seen the original yet(which you should!), it follows a bullied 12-year old boy who dreams of revenge on the kids that pick on him. He falls in love with a peculiar girl. She can't stand the sun or food and to come into a room she needs to be invited. She gives the boy the strength to hit back but when he realizes that the girl is a vampire he's faced with a choice.
I loved the original film, it was one of my favorite films of last year, and I'm upset that Matt Reeves is remaking a perfectly great movie. Unfortunately, I know more people will end up seeing this remake before they see the original, if they ever see the original. I still don't understand why it is being called Fish Head.
