Director Chuck Russell is taking Arabian Nights into the third dimension. To give you an idea of what kind of director Russell is, here are some films that he's made, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob, The Mask, Eraser, and Scorpion King. I Guess a 3D Arabian Nights film is the next logical step for him.

He is putting a new spin on the classic story which will follow a young commander who, after his king is killed in a palace coup, joins forces with Sinbad, Aladdin and his genie to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from dark powers.

He's gonna spend around $70 million dollars making the film which is set to start production in April. Russell talks about the technology and how it's developed far enough to take the audience on a magic carpet ride.

Through the use of a new generation of visual technologies, we will be able to quite literally take audiences around the world on a magic carpet ride.

Yeah, it sounds kind of silly. Are people really feelin' a magic carpet ride movie right now? This just seems like one of those films that is going to bomb in the end, due to people not knowing how to market the film. Maybe if Jerry Bruckheimer was behind it and and it turned out to be an over the top action film, then yeah I think people could get excited.

Are you interested in taking a magic carpet ride in 3D?
