AVATAR Takes the #1 Spot Again! Here are the Christmas Weekend Box Office Details

Well, Avatar did it again! It beat out Sherlock Holmes and came in as the highest grossing movie during the Holiday Weekend, setting the new record for most money made on Christmas Weekend! It made $75 million dollars! The previous record was held by Meet the Fockers which made 46.1 million.

This was actually the biggest Christmas movie box-office weekend ever! The four top grossing movies made more that $200 million dollars! The Top 10 grossed around $260 million, that my friends is $100 million than the previous record.

Even though Avatar took the top spot, Sherlock Holmes also shattered the previous Christmas weekend record with $63.3 million dollars! As did Alivin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquel with $50.2 million.

The economy may suck and people may be hurting for money, but it sure as hell didn’t stop them from going to the movies! Here are the top ten grossing movies for the Christmas Weekend.

  1. Avatar - $75,000,000
  2. Sherlock Holmes - $65,380,000
  3. Alvin and the Chipmunks - $50,200,000
  4. It’s Complicated - $22,114,000
  5. Up in the Air - $11,755,000
  6. The Blind Side - $11,730,000
  7. The Princess and the Frog - $8,683,000

  9. Did You Hear About the Morgans? - $5,000,000
  10. Invictus - $4,390,000

I also just wanted to give you a quick little update on how well Avatar is doing as a whole. The estimated cost to make and market this film was $500 million. Avatar is in its second week, worldwide it has made a grand total of $615,168,000 dollars, and it will make more. So it looks like FOX made all of their money back within a week. It actually looks like in the end it will beat out The Twilight Saga New Moon which currently has worldwide total of $662,430,961. I honestly didn’t think Avatar would out-make New Moon, but it’s well on its way. The sci-fi geeks can once again walk with their heads high.

James Cameron knew it would be a hit. He knows what people want to see.

What movie did you end up going to se on Christmas weekend?
