THUNDERCATS Movie is no Longer Happening?

Thunder… Thunder… Thundercats! Noooooooooo!

I’m sorry to report that the Warner Bros. CGI animated Thundercats movie project is no longer happening. This is according to the good folks over at Collider and their reliable sources.

I’m fifty percent bummed out about this news, and fifty percent relieved. On one hand, I didn’t want to see one of my favorite 80’s cartoons raped by Hollywood like Paramount did with G.I. Joe. On the other hand, this is one of my favorite 80’s cartoons that I wanted to finally see brought to life on the big screen. But it looks like it’s not going to happen… anytime soon anyway.

I’m pretty sure the movie will eventually be brought back into the warm loving arms of film production sometime in the future. With the success of Transformers and G.I. Joe I don’t see why they wouldn’t.

The movie was supposed to be a full CGI animated film directed by Jerry O’Flaherty that dabbled in video games before taking on the directing gig. The movie was going to be an origin story similar to the original pilot episode, "Exodus." You can watch that full episode Right Here if you so desire.

In the mean time it might be comforting to know that Hollywood is working on getting Robotech, He-Man and Voltron movies off the ground.

To remind you of the complete awesomeness of this series, check out the opening sequence to the cartoon below.

Are you happy or sad about the Thundercats movie no longer happening?
