Brad Pitt to Produce Dracula Action Film for Summit
Summit Entertainment is making gobs and gobs of money off it's Twilight franchise, and it's not that last vampire movie they are going to make. Summit is moving away from the romantic vampire love story and moving on to making an action-oriented film around the most famous vampire of all... Dracula.
The movie will be made from an already written script called Vlad, which was written by actor Charlie Hunnam. Summit picked up the script and is currently in negotiations with music video director Anthony Mandler to helm the project. Mandler has directed 10 Rhianna music videos along with The Killers and Emeinem. Apparently his directing reel really impressed executives.
Vlad centers on Dracula as a young prince; he is known to history as Vlad the Impaler, the man behind the Dracula myth.
Brad Pitt is producing the film through his Plan B Entertainemnt. Everyone hopes to make a visually edgy and radical period movie that will also help break new talent.
There is actually another movie that is being developed based on the younger years of Vlad the Impaler. Alex Proyas is currently developing a film called Dracula: Year Zero, which is supposed to put a whole new spin on the legend of Vlad. You can read more about that here. I am very interested in seeing a really good movie based on the life of Vlad, hopefully one of these films pays off.
I think it's very cool that Summit is using its status right now to help break out some new talent, not enough studios are doing that. I have a feeling they are going to go with some kind of 300 movie style with this one the whole visually edgy and radical period movie description says it all.
