DRACULA: YEAR ZERO Alex Proyas gives a little story detail

Vampires have always been a big hit at the movies as of right now a lot of people have their attention focused on 'Twilight' and HBO's 'True Blood'. Vampires are incredibly fascinating and I love the mythology behind them, so I am really looking forward to Alex Proyas' next film 'Dracula: Year Zero'. This is the story about how Dracula became a vampire. He has said that the script he is going from will

"put the whole legend on its head in every conceivable way and comes out with something that is both a kind of an ode to Bram Stoker’s original Dracula, in that it’s kind of a prequel to that, but it also redefines the character to such an extent that I found it quite exciting, so that is very much a kind of reinvention of that character and it’s why I got excited about it.”

Now he lets us in on a little story detail from the script he is so excited about.

"It's Prince Vlad of Transylvania in the 14th century, and to save his kingdom and his family he takes his first step into darkness, It's his evolution into the monster that Dracula became."

We knew that the film would involve Prince Vlad and that he would eventually become a vampire. What we didn't know was that the reason for the transformation he undergoes is is to help save his kingdom and family. It seems quite honorable to sacrifice ones soul for there people they love. Does he make a pack with the devil? Is there a spell or curse placed upon him? Who knows how it will all go down, but I can't wait to see. As for the casting aspect of the movie and if he wants an actor with star power Proyas goes on to say:

"There's this kind of discourse between casting and budget and trying to find the sweet spot in between. That’s a bone of contention right now.”

I would love it if Proyas casts a less known actor for the role as long as the actor is a good one. You might not know this but more movies have been made about the character Dracula than any other character ever.

OMFG! It's been so long since a good 'Dracula' movie & Proyas could very well deliver some truly original. Here's hoping it's all about script, script, script from this point.
