This is so weird, or fate or coincidence or whatever... but Venkman and I had a conversation just the other day, wondering what ever happened to Napoleon Dynamite? Not the character, but Jon Heder, the actor who played him. We haven't seen him in anything since starring opposite Will Ferrel in 2007's Blades of Glory. Well, the answer is here...

Jon Heder is set to star in a big-screen adaptation of the Bradley Denton comic sci-fi novel, Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede. In the film, Heder will play Oliver Vale, an average geek whose uneventful life changes when Buddy Holly turns up on every TV channel and declares that Vale is the only one who understands why this is happening, which causes Vale to be pursued by a mob of disguised aliens.

Award winning indie filmmaker Robert Rugan(Alice's Misadventures in Wonderland), wrote the script and will direct. And Dahlia Street Films' Molly Mayeux(Diary of a Mad Black Woman) and Michael Hennessy(Trailer Park of Terror) will produce Buddy Holly.

Here's the full plot synopsis for the film Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede:

February 3rd, 1959 was the “day the music died.” It was also marked the day when our hero, Oliver Vale, was conceived in the back seat of a car. And from that moment forward, he was raised to fervently believe in personal freedom, UFOs, higher consciousness and, of course, the power of rock n rock. Exactly thirty years from his conception, Oliver turns on the TV only to find Buddy Holly on every channel, broadcasting nonstop from Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter. Buddy’s message to the world? Oliver Vale holds the key to Buddy Holly’s “re-birth” and should be contacted for details. Now in a slight panic, Oliver makes the decision to race towards Lubbock, the birthplace of Buddy Holly, to search for some clues into why this is happening to him. And with Oliver on the run, the film becomes an action packed romp through the desert - with Oliver trying to keep ahead of the pack and away from his therapist, a killer cyborg dog, a FCC assassin, a couple of aliens, and a mob of couch potatoes who want their TV back… NOW.

I had a dream with like three-fourths of these things in it... weird! This movie sounds like it's gonna be a fun ride. I've never read the novel, but for those who have, let us know if you think this is in good hands!

Heder will begin shooting on Buddy Holly when he has time off from the untitled Comedy Central sitcom he stars in. In which he plays an out-of-work IT specialist who leaves the city and returns to his small hometown to live with his parents and younger brother. That project is being produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

So what do you think of Jon Heder in Buddy Holly?
