The Dark Crystal is a film I grew up watching over and over again! I loved that film, it was such a great story, and gloriously frightening. I loved that stuff as a kid, still do. Now today I find out that the Jim Henson Company is making a sequel! This has made my week!

The movie will be called, The Power of the Dark Crystal, the script is finished, and here is what Brain Henson had to say about it:

"We have a 'Dark Crystal' sequel, called 'The Power of the Dark Crystal.' It has a very strong script."

Not just a script, but a very strong script! This is incredibly exciting, he doesn't give much more information on the film, but just the fact that we are going to see a continuation of the story makes me incredibly happy. The movie is being directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, who has directed episodes of Star Wars: Clone Wars, Samurai Jack, and Dexter's Laboratory.

Here is a little synopsis of the first film in case you forgot.

1000 years ago the mysterious Dark Crystal was damaged by one of the Urskeks and an age of chaos has began! The evil race of grotesque birdlike lizards the Skeksis, gnomish dragons who rule their fantastic planet with an iron claw. Meanwhile the orphan Jen, raised in solitude by a race of the peace-loving wizards called the Mystics, embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of the Dark Crystal which gives the Skesis their power and restore the balance of the universe.

Here is what the sequel will be about:

Set hundreds of years after the first film, an evil mysterious girl named Thurma made of fire who lives in the blazing center of the planet steals a shard of the crystal in hopes of reigniting the dying sun! There is only one thing powerful enough to heal the star - a shard of the crystal.

As for Fraggle Rock Henson says:

"Fraggle Rock" is "still in very active development. Very active development. That has a very strong script. It'll have a strong musical component. It'll be expanded to an older audience. 'Fraggle Rock' [the TV show] was presented... for a pretty exclusively children's audience. The feature film does expand it to be more accessible to a wider audience."

How great is this! I love today! There's no word yet on when these films will be released. IMDB lists The Power of the Dark Crystal as being released in 2011, but they are happening! So what do you think? How excited are you for this!?
