Movie Review: 9
If you’ve seen the posters, trailers, and film clips for the new cgi film, 9, then like me you were looking forward to seeing this movie. It came out a couple days ago so there is a chance some of you may have already seen it. I think we all have a pretty good idea of what we are getting ourselves into when going to see this movie. The one thing we didn’t really know is how good the story would be.
I really had a great time watching this movie. The visuals and designs were fantastic! I loved the design of this world and the characters that were involved with the story. The cgi animation was done very well, there was nothing really ground breaking but it still looked cool. The action was the best part of the film. The whole movie was one action scene after another and as awesome as they were that was pretty much all this movie was, cool action scenes.
The characters were done very well, we get to know who they all are, and there personalities. There was a huge story built around these characters and this world that Shane Acker has created, but the problem is he doesn’t give us much story to go off of in the movie. When the film starts you are literally dropped in the middle of a huge story. Sure, there a a couple little flashbacks to help give you a back story, but that still isn’t enough. As the film plays out you are always wondering what it all means, why did this happen, and where are they going with this story. Even at the end there is no real closure. Many people walking out of the theater were talking to each other and I heard the people say they didn’t get it, and asking the question of what it all means.
This movie seemed like the middle section of a much bigger story. There is a whole movie that could have been made to show how the world ended, give us a better backstory on the Doctor in the film, and the experiences and challenges he went through to choose to do what he did. The story can definitely continue from where the movie ended, maybe clear up a few things of what they plan on doing to jump start their new world.
Now there is a bunch of stuff online that you could research to get more of a backstory on the film which is really interesting, but seriously, how many people that go to the movies is going to take the time to look that stuff up? I was just disappointed that it was like watch the second film of a trilogy, because I totally missed the first film. That being said Shane Acker does have a great career ahead of him. I really dig his originality and style, and I am excited to see what he ends up doing next. This is his first feature film and he will continue to learn as he makes more movies.
Like I said the movie is very fun to watch, there is no doubt you will be entertained when watching this film. I suggest you go check it out and see it for yourself, I recommend seeing because I did ultimately like it, and I think you will too. I will tell you though the movie is rated PG-13 for a reason, it is very dark and bleak. They showed a couple things that I was surprised they showed. It's not a kids movie.
If you have already seen the movie tell us what you thought of it. And if you are planning to go see it come on back over when you done, and give us your review.
