Sam Worthington to Play Dracula in Alex Proyas' DRACULA: YEAR ZERO?
According to our friends over at Latino Review, Avatar star Sam Worthington is the frontrunner to star in Universal's Dracula: Year Zero, which is being directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City, Knowing, I, Robot).
We've reported on this upcoming film a couple of time and Proyas has talked a great deal about it. The film is an origin tale of Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian royal who inspired Bram Stoker's vampire tale. It centers on how Vlad became the creature; the choices that he made to make him into the tragic character.
Here a are a few things that Proyas has said abut this movie in the past. He said the script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will,
put the whole legend on its head in every conceivable way and comes out with something that is both a kind of an ode to Bram Stoker’s original Dracula, in that it’s kind of a prequel to that, but it also redefines the character to such an extent that I found it quite exciting, so that is very much a kind of reinvention of that character and it’s why I got excited about it.
He goes on to talk about the story a bit saying,
It's Prince Vlad of Transylvania in the 14th century, and to save his kingdom and his family he takes his first step into darkness, It's his evolution into the monster that Dracula became.
He's also said the the movie is going to be a more realistic take on the story.
I think Proyas is a very good director regardless of what he did with Knowing, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he really has planned for this both story wise and visually. I can see Worthington take on the role of Vlad the Impaler A.K.A. Dracula, but I can see that with a lot of actors. I won't be disappointed if they do officially cast him in the role, I think he'll do just fine. At the same time I can't really imagine him with the teeth.
What do you think about Sam Worthington taking on the role of Dracula?
