Sam Mendes to Direct BOND 23

Movie James Bond by Joey Paur

Geez, just yesterday we reported that the 23rd James Bond film was put on hold due to the fact that MGM is in the middle of some big money problems, and that they were going to wait until those problems were solved.

Now today we get a huge announcement that the film is being put on the fast-track in hopes to start filming in June, working toward a 2011 release date, and Sam Mendes is currently in negotiations with the studio to direct Bond 23!

So screw the financial woes! MGM is moving forward with the project despite the possible sale of the studio.

Sam Mendes is a great choice for the franchise! He is a great director that has made great films. This is the same guy that directed American Beauty, Road to Perdition (one of my Favorites), Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, and most recently Away We Go. This guy is definitely a solid filmmaker and it should be interesting to see what exactly he has planned for the next James Bond film. This will be his first heavy action film, but I think he has what it takes to pull it off.

Bond writer regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are writing the film, along with Frost/Nixon scribe Peter Morgan. Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are producing. And of course Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007 himself.

What do you think of Sam Mendes coming on board to direct Bond 23?
