More Plot Details Revealed for INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequels

Director Roland Emmerich revealed last year that he was interested in make two more Independence Day sequels, and that Will Smith was interested in returning to the franchise to reprise his role. We didn't have any information on any plot details for these sequels until today.

MTV did an interview with Emmerich back in February, but for some reason didn't post what he said until now. In the interview the director describes that the film would be set over ten years after the alien invasion in a modern day alternate reallity. Here are his exact words,

It's an alternate reality kind of movie. We pick up the story, what would have happened after this kind of attack? Naturally, the alien technology has changed everything.

Obviously! He then goes on to reveal who the president of the United states would be...

Or, who will be president? Who will be president? See?

He puts an emphasis on the word will. As in Will Smith, so yes we see. Will Smith's character will be the President of the United States.

Previously:

According to inside sources the plan would be to shoot both films back-to-back, and if all goes according to plan, the sequel(s) could shoot as early as 2011. This means it will be Emmerich's next directing gig after after his William Shakespeare thriller Anonymous. It would also be Smith's next acting gig after he either makes Men in Black 3. If it all goes through.

There is still no solid confirmation that this is really happening so we are throwing it into the rumor bin for now, but we know that these sequels have been been discussed for some time now, and it is only a matter of time before we get official confirmation.

So what do you all think about Will Smith being the presdent of the United States in this alternate reality?
