Tom Cruise Battling it out with John Woo for FLYING TIGERS

We've got a situation here. As many of you know, Director John Woo has been developing a awesome sounding Chinese/American World War II film called Flying Tigers. Now New Regency and Tom Cruise are developing a rival film with the same title based on the same historical event. Woo and Crusie both worked on the film Mission: Impossible II together, but it looks like they aren't going to join forces on this one.

This film will be based on the true story of the 1st American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force in 1941-1942. This group was called the Flying Tigers they were a private military contractor, and the volunteers have also been called mercenaries. They were former United States Army , Navy, and Marine Corps pilots and ground crew, recruited under Presidential sanction and commanded by Claire Lee Chennault. The group consisted of three fighter squadrons with about 20 aircraft each. It trained in Burma before the American entry into World War II with the intention of defending China against Japanese forces.

Woo has been trying to get Liam Neeson cast in his $90 million IMAX film, which would be awesome! They expect to start shooting next spring.

Cruise's production has hired Kirk Ellis to rewrite a draft of Flying Tigers that was done by Valkyrie scribe Christopher McQuarrie and Mason Alley. Apparently Cruise has also always wanted to play a pilot in a period film, and he's hoping this could be it.

I'd like to see Woo get his film into production before Crusie, it seems like it's further along in production. I think Cruise should just let go of this one and try something new. I've been excited for Woo's version, and I don't really care to see Crusie in a film like this. What do you all think?
