Darren Aronofsky Has A 2 Year Picture Deal With Fox

Darren Aronofsky and Fox Filmed Entertainment have joined forces for a two year overall production deal for Protozoa Pictures, Aronofsky's production company.  This deal will allow Protozoa to develop and produce films for both Twentieth Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures.

The Wolverine will be the first film made under this deal.  The film is scheduled for a April release next year and was written by Oscar®-winner Christopher McQuarrie.  Fox and Aronofsky have a very solid working relationship together with Fox Searchlight releasing the upcoming Black Swan on December 3rd and 2008's The Wrestler.

Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley, Fox Searchlight heads, stated:

“Darren’s vision has brought audiences some of the most original and memorable stories and characters in recent motion picture history.  We at Fox witnessed this first hand with his work on The Wrestler, and Black Swan, and now, on The Wolverine, which will be an exciting  take on that iconic figure and on the genre itself.  We can’t wait to see what else Darren has in store for us.”

President of Production at Twentieth Century Fox, Emma Watts Emma Watts added:

"We're excited Darren is going to bring his unique vision to THE WOLVERINE and we take great satisfaction that Fox, irrespective of the size of his films, continues to provide a home for his extraordinary talent."

This is great news for Aronofsky and fans like us.  I am glad to see Fox continuing to put forth such faith in his work.  He is a dynamic director whose work continues to amaze and mesmerize audiences around the world. This is really a no brainer for Fox who have been able to generate some well deserving Oscar buzz for Black Swan.
