Darren Aronofsky Gets us even More Excited for THE WOLVERINE

Director Darren Aronofsky offered up some very encouraging words regarding his next film, The Wolverine, which as you know will be the second Wolverine film that Fox Studios develops.

There are some people out there that think that there's no hope for the X-Men franchise as long as Fox holds the rights to the property. I was one of these people, I've had my doubts, but after hearing what Aronofsky had to say about why he took on The Wolverine project, I'm much more confident that the film will end up being the best X-Men franchise film ever made.

Here's what Aronfsky had to say about why he took on the project in a recent interview with Dave Poland:

I think I’m being hired because of who I am; I’m not being hired to turn into someone. I’m being hired to do what I do. I don’t know exactly if [Fox head Tom Rothman] knows what he’s bought, but we’re going to make something great.

This gives me hope that if Rothman tries to step in a screw things up again Aronofsky will have the balls to tell him no.

I’m just trying to have fun, and for the first time in my life…Every single film I’ve done so far, I’ve been the only person in the room who wants to make the movie, and I kind of am excited about doing a film where actually everyone wants to make it — just to see what the experience is like and see if I can do what I do in that world. It’s not like I’m going to change my process. I’m going to be working with the same team and making…really trying to do something very, very different.

Yes, thank you! This franchise really needs something new and different. The Wolverine will serve a stand alone film that takes the character to Japan. Aronofsky explains that the film is “a standalone piece that has nothing to do with anything in the whole franchise or in that universe.” Dave Poland goes on to talk about some of Rothman’s strategy in making big budget/tentpole films with certain directors has been gutsy, Aronofsky laughed and replies with, “He doesn’t even know how gutsy it is.”

I love his attitude. I love that this is a Wolverine film that we can actually look forward to knowing it's going to be top quality storytelling and filmmaking. I have a feeling it's going to end up blowing all of our expectations out of the water.

Here's the video interview, check it out if you can and tell us what you think! Are you a little more excited about The Wolverine?
