Sony Pictures to Develop Contemporary FRANKENSTEIN Film

Movie Frankenstein by Joey Paur

Sony Pictures has picked up a new film pitch from Craig Fernandez that re-imagines Mary Shelly's Frankenstein in a contemporary setting. It's not really an original idea for a film, but there aren't many original ideas getting picked up by movie studios these days.  Apparently it's too risky for them.

Fernandez, who will write the film, has worked on the upcoming Lionsgate movie From Prada to Nada, described as a Latin spin on Sense and Sensibility. He also just scripted a film for DreamWorks Animation called Everything Must Go, based on Terry Pratchett's The Bromeliad Trilogy, and is adapting the Octavia Butler novel Clay's Ark for DreamWorks Animation and Shrek producer Aaron Warner.

Former Sony Pictures co-president Matt Tolmach will produce the film through his Matt Tolmach Productions.

If you want any more details on the story just read Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and imagine it in a modern day contemporary setting.

I can't say I'm very excited about this. I'm more excited for Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein film, if it ever eventually happens.
