The Writers Guild of America has announced the disqualification of the following films for this years awards. Oddly enough, some of hte scripts disqualified are the best scripts of the year!

The films that the WGA took out of the running for honors are Another YearBiutifulBlue Valentine, The Ghost WriterThe King’s SpeechMade in DagenhamScott Pilgrim vs. the WorldToy Story 3Winter’s Bone

I find it funny that the WGA is honoring the best scripts without including these films. Here is the method behind the WGA's madness. The WGA has some steadfast rules for a film to remain eligible for their awards. Each script must be produced under WGA jurisdiction and they have to be formally submitted for consideration.

As much as I often feel that rules are meant to be broken, these definitely sound like standard rules for competition to me. On the other hand, this years WGA awards could be shaping up to be an even full of self-congratulation. Traditionally the WGA awards are a strong indicator of Oscar success, with the Best Original Screenplay matching 11 out of the last 16 years.

What do you think of this news, do you think it's fair for these films to be knocked out of consideration?
