PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 & 6 will shoot back-to-back

The Rob Marshall directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides recently wrapped filming, and is currently in post production. Disney must be extremely happy what was done, because the studio wants to make two more Pirates of the Caribbean films, and they want to shoot them back-to-back.

According to to HitFix, "Disney has begun quietly telling cast and crew to set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot "Pirates 5" and "Pirates 6."  And, yes, once again, they will be shooting them back-to-back as one giant film, and then they'll release them as two films."

My first thought is: isn't Johnny Depp really getting tired of playing the character of Captain Jack Sparrow? After six films, this character will define Depp's career. If he enjoys doing it that's cool - it's not like he needs the money. Depp is also currently attached to star in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, and Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger.

It will be interesting to see where Disney takes the story from here. I'm interested in seeing On Stranger Tides, but I'm not really that excited for it.  The Pirates of the Carribbean franchise doesn't really do anything for me.  The films were fun, but they never blew me away. Who knows though, maybe this next Pirates film will end up being awesome.

Regardless of what I think, there's no doubt that movies are still going to make a ton of money. Disney will keep the franchise alive as long as they can.

What are your thoughts on the fact that Disney is looking to make two more Pirates films?
