ZONAD Trailer - Once director John Carney's Full Feature Remake of his Comedy Short

TrailerMovie by Eli Reyes

Here's a trailer for the Irish comedy Zonad, from co-directors and writers John Carney and Kieran Carney. You may know John Carney as the writer-director of the Oscar winning micro-budgeted musical, Once.

In the full-feature remake of their 2003 short -- which starred none-other than Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, 28 Days Later) --  actor Simon Delaney (East Enders) reprises his role as Zonad, an alien from space... probably,

...or so the Cassidy family assume when they discover the apparent alien in a shiny red space suit and helmet passed out on the living room floor beside the drinks cabinet. But Zonad is not a space cadet in the literal sense. This alcoholic chancer has escaped from a rehabilitation clinic. At first, Zonad tries to evade the warm welcome of the villagers, but the procession of wanton women and free beer soon gets the better of him.

It looks like they've got themselves more money this time around, as this is of much better quality than the original short, which you can see watch bizarre clip of on the YouTube.  The concept is pretty funny, but the clueless villagers are what will probably make the film. Zonad's Mork-type shenanigans may get old after awhile, but hopefully with the 6 years they've had to hone this character, there'll be some gems in there.

I've really been looking forward to what John Carney would release next. Once is one of my favorite films, and there are scenes that still give me goosebumps everytime I watch it. Carney will next write and direct the Zach Galifianakis dramedy Town House, which s set to being production this summer.

Zonad hits UK and European cinemas March 17th, but there is no US release set as of yet.

Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!
