Cage and Reynolds will play Cavemen in DreamWorks' THE CROODS

DreamWorks Animation has brought on Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds to voice CG cavemen in their prehistoric 3D comedy The Croods, which will be co-written and directed by Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps) and Chris Sanders (Lilo and Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon).

Cage will star as Crug, a patriarch who cautiously leads his family beyond his comfort zone after an earthquake destroys their home. While attempting to navigate the dangerous and unfamiliar world, Crug butts heads with a forward thinking nomad, played by Reynolds, who charms Crug's clan -- especially his eldest daughter -- with his (relatively) modern-minded ways.

Nic Cage, as a caveman... yeah, that sounds about right. I know he'll be CG, but the dude really does look like a caveman.

The Croods falls under DWA's partnership with Aardman Animation, and was developed by DeMicco and John Cleese, the comedy legend who has lent his voice to the studio's Shrek films. Kristine Belson and Jane Hartwell will produce.

The Croods will hit theaters in 3D March 30, 2012.
