JAWS Remake in 3D!? No! I Give Up...

It's no surprise that Hollywood has run out of ideas, that they aren't willing to do anything new, different or original. It has become a place overloaded with remakes and sequels, and it was only a matter of time before the untouchable films were touched. Studios have no respect for the classics these days.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Universal Pictures is looking at taking Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic Jaws and remaking it... in 3D.  This is a very sad day in the world of film. This is a movie that never ever needed to be remade, it's perfect the way it is.

This news, which I am considering a rumor, comes from a source at Cinemablend who says "the studio is strongly considering a remake of the summer blockbuster in hopes of dazzling younger audiences with new special effects. Their claim is that people now expect more, visually, from their movie going experience. So, Hollywood studios are inclined to take some of their tried and true franchise names like Jaws and bring them into the 3D world."

Thats just one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Now this next bit of information sounds like a freakin' joke, but their insider also reveals that Tracy Morgan was at one point being considered for the part of Matt Hooper, previously played by Richard Dreyfuss. Tracy Morgan!? Are you kidding me? Look, the guy is funny but he doesn't belong in Jaws! There's no word on if this casting fart is still in the plans, but it seems to me if they are going to cast him they are going for a more comedic tone, which makes this idea even worse.

I know there was some comedy in the original film, but it was tasteful comedy that flowed with the story. With Morgan on board it seems like they want to take the comedy over the top. Hell, even if they do make a seriously Jaws movie just the fact that it's being remade pisses me off. Unfortunately, some of these studio executives just have a very limited imagination.

Even though this is a rumor for now, it makes for good conversation, and hopefully it never does happen.

So what are your thoughts on Universal's possible plans to remake JAWS?
