It looks like once director Michel Gondry is finished directing Green Hornet he is going to direct another one of his own original stories, but with a much bigger budget than some of his past films. Gondry is best known for his films Be Kind Rewind and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It sounds like his next film is going to involve everyones favorite subject... time travel. Here's what Gondry told MTV recently.
I'd like to do a movie of this size with my own story, which would be quite amazing. But we'll see. I'm developing a screenplay with a writer right now about kids who travel [into] the future by mistake and a machine [that] keeps people younger... ehhh, it's complicated to explain.
He's been trying to develop an adaptation of Rudy Rucker's 1984 sci-fi novel The Master of Space and Time, but it doesn't look like it's going anywhere, so this project is something of his own that he's started working on. He's collaborating with both Ghost World graphic novelist Daniel Clowes and Keith Bunin who wrote HBO's In Treatment on this new sci-fi time travel project. He then reveals who is going to star in the film.
Ellen Page is supposed to be the main character. She'd play Nancy... a young woman who participates in the discovery and changes the world.
Looks like Gondry's got the ball rolling on this project and he's getting things ready to go into production sometime in the near future. Knowing Gondry's work, this time travel project will probably end up being one of the most unique time travel stories we've ever seen. It will be cool to see how this all unfolds. I'm really interested to find out what exactly he has planned.
