Jason Segel will play Human Lead in The GREATEST MUPPET MOVIE OF ALL TIME

Movie Jason Segel by Eli Reyes

Jason Segel's love affair with the Muppets is blossoming more and more everyday. It began while working with the Jim Henson Company to create the puppets for the finale in his starring and writing debut Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Love letters ensued when Segel and Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller were tapped to write the screenplay for a new Muppet movie. Now things are getting all hot and heavy warm and fuzzy, as Jason Segel has signed on to star as the human lead in The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time.

It's no surprise and only natural that Segel, who has played such a big part in bringing the Muppets back together, will star as a human, who goes on a quest... to bring the Muppets back together.

We know from an early script review that the story will follow a man named Gary (Segel), who along with his girlfriend Mary and  life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend Walter must round up and convince the now retired entertainers from the original Muppet Show to help save the famous television studio that the original variety series was filmed in. The film’s evil villain, Tex Richman, is due to take over the property, and wants to destroy the theater and drill for oil underneath.

Last month it was confirmed that Flight of the Conchords and Da Ali G Show director James Bobin will helm the pic.

Segel also recently boarded the comedy Bad Teacher, starring Cameron Diaz, and last week he signed on to take on the title role in Jeff Who Lives at Home, opposite Ed Helms.
