MONSTER SQUAD Is Being Remade!? No! No. no. Noooooo!
What in the bloody hell is going on in this strange land of Hollywood!? Paramount Pictures and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes for some strange reason wants to remake the classic 1987 film Monster Squad! I just can't condone this madness. To make things even worse, the original producer of the film, Rob Cohen, director of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, wants to direct the remake. I'm not the biggest fan of the films he directed.
The original film was written by Fred Dekker and Shane Black before Lethal Weapon. The story follows a group of adolescent monster movie enthusiasts who form a club that meets in a treehouse in this pre-teen horror feature. When Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, and The Wolfman are joined by Gill-Man in the search for a magic amulet, the boys form the Monster Squad to battle the forces of evil. The boys get unexpected help from Frankenstein when the monster grows tired of being continually bossed around by Dracula.
I grew up on this film, and I still enjoy watching it! In my mind, remaking Monster Squad is like remaking a movie like The Goonies. It just frustrates the hell out of me that none of these studios and executives will actually take a chance on an original story concept or script. They go out and dig up these older classic movies to remake because they don't have the balls to use their imagination. Come on people! What happened to the Hollywood that actually used to make the amazing, original and creative films that everyone is remaking now? I understand the studios have gotta make a buck, but common, not Monster Squad!
Today is a sad day in the movie business.
What are your thoughts on the remake of the classic film Monster Squad.
