Review: THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE (FIRST SEQUENCE)

ReviewMovie by brians

What happens when you have two female tourists traveling the back roads in Germany on their way to a nightclub? You get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere which sets up the events of writer/director Tom Six's The Human Centipede (First Sequence).

Without spoiling this for you I'll take a spoiler-free shortcut.  As our two female tourists Lindsay (Ashley C. Williams) and Jenny (Ashlynn Yennie) come up on a house in the middle of nowhere which of course is owned by a former surgeon gone mad, Dr. Heiter (Dieter Laser) who was once a highly regarded surgeon who specialized in separating conjoined twins.  Laser should win an oscar for this character, he looks crazy and shows his mental instability all through the film.  He also hints to the two girls that he hates the human race while reflecting back to his "3 dog" (this is all I can say here), he then drugs them and by this point it's already too late for them.  They are taken to his make-shift operating room in his house where they await events that their own imaginations or ours could ever fathom.

Enter what is to become the third part of Dr. Heiter's experiment is a Japanese tourist (kihiro Kitamura) who ends up joining our girls as the final piece. What happens next is the most jaw-dropping, cringing and butt pinching surgery I've ever seen in a movie. I'm not going to ruin this for you but I will say, it's not the blood at all that gets you,ok.

Dr. Heiter begins this horrific surgery and pretty much uses it's pshycological resources to mess with our imaginations, why do I say this? Remember this is an independent film and director Tom Six had to rely on this approach because of the lack of funds for the scenes but they all play out in utter and frightening perfection! All characters play to prefection in these scenes with each one having their own uniqueness to this situation.

As the surgery is complete and the full centipede is revealed I promise you this is a scene in movie history you will always remember, another note that will help you remember is this is 100% medically accurate! Yes, Dr. Heiter has gone mad but is a genious.

Six introduces us to two more characters during this film who catch on to what's going on but how? You'll have to find out what happens next!  What happens next? Does anyone live?  These are the questions that'll be answered when you check this film out!

This to me is exactly what the horror industry needs right now is an extreme kick in the ass and Tom Six has delivered an instant classic that will fall along side of such tourist shocker movie titles as Hostel, Touristas and Train and will fit right in and surpass some of our timeless classics like Psycho and A Texas Chainsaw Massacre.Yes it's thaat good!

Good news, as Six was doing press for this last week and earlier this week he announced that The Human Centipede (Full Sequence) will start filming this summer!

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is out on VOD now and hits theaters in limited release tomorrow, April 30th 2010.

If you love horror movies this is a must see for all and if I gave stars it'd get a 5 out of 5!
