CUP OF TEARS Samurai Short Film to Be Developed into a Feature Film
In October of last year we shared with you a great little sci-fi Samurai short film trailer called Cup of Tears developed by a young director named Gary Shore. The film is a live-action CGI hybrid, and it was pretty freakin' awesome! I loved what I saw, and at the time I thought it would make a pretty cool movie, and now it looks like a full-length motion picture is actually going to happen!
Universal Pictures and Working Title have acquired the rights to the short. Shore is a well established commercial director who made the short film to help get his break in the feature film business... it worked. Shore made the short in about six months, in between his commercials work. He has written a treatment for the story, and a writer will be brought on board shortly. of course Shore will direct the feature film, which has the potential to be epic.
Here is the plot summary:
Cup Of Tears follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell.
Here is the short film in case you missed it. Check it out and tell us if you think this will make for a good movie.
