Walden Media Bringing the Children's Book COSMIC to the Big Screen
Walden Media, who brought us such films as The Chronicales of Narnia, City of Ember, The Water Horse and several other family films is going to bring us a new fun little sci-fi adventure. They will be adapting the children's book by U.K. author Frank Cottrell Boyce Cosmic for the big screen.
Boyce will be adapting his own novel into a script, because he just happens to be a screenwriter as well. The story is described as Apollo 13 meets Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Well, that sold me!
It follows a boy who, after going through an early growth spurt, is often mistaken for an adult. One day he decides to pose as his best friend's father in order to snag a seat on an experimental spaceship ride. The journey goes awry and he needs to save the crew.
Boyce explains that, "The hero of Cosmic is a boy who goes further away from Earth than any human being has ever been, but his big discoveries are all about family and home."
I've never heard of this book until today, but it actually sounds like a pretty cool little sci-fi adventure.
Here is the description from the book:
Liam is too big for his boots, his football strip, and his school blazer. But being super-sized height-wise has its advantages: he's the only eleven-year-old to ever ride the G-force defying Cosmic rollercoaster or be offered the chance to drive a Porsche. Long-legged Liam makes a giant leap for boy-kind by competing with a group of adults for the chance to go into space. Is Liam the best boy for the job? Sometimes being big isn't all about being a grown-up.
