Sony Pictures and Director Marc Webb are hard at work developing the new Spider-Man reboot. Alvin Sargent is currently polishing up the script for the film, and the hunt for the new Peter Parker in on. It's no secret that for the last few months Webb has been meeting with young actors and having them audition for the role. After all Sony wants to get this film into production by the end of the year.
THR has released a short list of actor who are actually up for the role of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man and here they are.
Jamie Bell: 24 year old English actor who made his film debut playing the title character in Billy Elliot. Since then he's been in a few films such as King Kong, Defiance, and Speilberg's upcoming Tintin.
Alden Ehrenreich: This 20 year old actor was in Francis Ford Coppola in 2009’s Tetro.
Frank Dillane: This 19 year old British actor played a young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Andrew Garfield: This 27 year old actor has been in films such as Boy A, Red Riding, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and is most recently starring in David Fincher's The Social Network.
Josh Hutcherson: Being 18 years old he's the youngest of the bunch, and he's also the actor with the most experience. His credits include Zathura, Bridge to Terabithia, Red Dawn Remake, The Kids Are All Right, Journey to the Center of the Earth, RV and several more films.
So there they are, these are our Spider-Man hopefuls. I think many of these actors are to old to play a high school kid, which is what they are looking for. They might as well be auditioning Joseph Gordon-Levitt as well, there looking at guys like Andrew Garfield. Out of this list I think Hutcherson is the best choice for what they are looking at doing for the reboot, which takes Parker back to high school. THR says that the "movie will be an angst-ridden tale of a teen dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though he had the power to stop it."
Out of the actors currently in the running for Spider-Man who would you like to see take on the role of Peter Parker?
