Drew Pearce to Write Marvels THE RUNAWAYS
Marvel Studios has hired Drew Pearce to write the comic book adaptation of The Runaways, which is being directed by Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist helmer Peter Sollett..
The comic book was created by Brian K. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona, and follows a group of teenagers who find that some family secrets are bigger than others when they discover their parents are actually super-villains. Running away from their homes, the teens band together and begin a journey of discovery, both of their parents' origins and of their own inherited powers, while trying to make up for the evil done by their folks.
Pearce isn't really a well known guy, especially here in the U.S. He created the hit UK superhero comedy TV series No Heroics. The show was actually nominated for Best New British TV Comedy of 2008 at the British Comedy Awards. The series revolves around the love lives and day-to-day trials of a group of friends who are off-duty superheroes that hang out in a bar for superheros, who aren't allowed to use their powers.
I think Pearce is an excellent choice to adapt The Runaways. Here is a trailer for Pearce's No Heroics to give you a taste of his style:
