A new teaser trailer has been released for George Clooney's new film, The American. Clooney plays a hitman in the story who is on his last assignment in Italy. There's no doubt Clooney makes a decent hitman, is he a good shot in real life? Probably not. But, from what I've seen in the trailers this is a film that we've seen a hundred times before... ok, maybe it's more like fifty, but you know what I'm saying. It just looks like a very Hollywood formula film, and you know from the trailers what's going to happen. I like Clooney much better as an actor when he doesn't play himself.
The film was directed by Anton Corbijin and stars Bruce Altman, Thekla Reuten, Paolo Bonacelli and Violante Placido.
Alone among assassins, Jack is a master craftsman. When a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, he vows to his contact Larry that his next assignment will be his last. Jack reports to the Italian countryside, where he holes up in a small town and relishes being away from death for a spell. The assignment, as specified by a Belgian woman, Mathilde, is in the offing as a weapon is constructed. Surprising himself, Jack seeks out the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto and pursues romance with local woman Clara. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.
The movie will be released on September 1st. Check out the teaser trailer below, and let me know what you think, does it look like a good film to you?
