Jason Reitman Options Simon Rich's ELLIOT ALLAGASH

Jason Reitman’s Right of Way Films has purchased the film rights to Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich’s debut novel, Elliot Allagash. The tome tells the story of a high school lesser-than named Seymour’s unlikely friendship with a wealthy transfer student, the titular Elliot Allagash.  Seymour’s new pal agrees to assist him in gaining popularity and power with one catch: Seymour must do whatever he requests.

Whether or not Reitman will direct this remains to be seen, but, given the amount of projects he has taken on as of late, he will likely only produce. The novel has a delightfully clever premise that should transition well to the big screen with the right team behind it. Here’s hoping a worthy soul is hired to helm the project if Reitman elects not to do so.
