Wolfgang Peterson to Direct ROCK EM' SOCK 'EM ROBOTS Movie
What? You Didn't see this coming? Of course Hollywood was going to turn Rock Em' Sock Em' Robots into a full length feature film! Right now director Shawn Levy is hard at work developing another boxing robot movie called Real Steel with Hugh Jackman. It's only appropriate that Hollywood make two of the same kind of movie around the same time.
Mattel and Maneville Films have teamed up with director Wolfgang Peterson to develop a movie based on the classic robot boxing game Rock Em' Sock Em' Robots. The movie is described as being Gladiator meets Iron Man, and it’s the “human story of one robot that becomes part human, part robot.” When ya put it like that, it just doesn't sound like a good movie idea at all.
Peterson made some great films in his career, but he's also had his bad films as well. He worked on films such as Poseidon, Troy, The Perfect Storm, Air Force One, Outbreak, In the Line of Fire, Das Boot, and The NeverEnding Story. Kurt Wimmer has been hired to write the screenplay, he recently wrote Salt and Law Abiding Citizens. It's not like there's bad talent behind the movie, it's just sounds like a stupid idea.
I'm going to treat this as a rumor for now, but one that isn't really that far-fetched especially with all the toy movies be made these days. It should be interesting to see how this all plays out.
