Daniel Craig in Talks to Join David Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

How awesome would it be to see David Fincher and Daniel Craig working together on a film? It looks like this team-up might just happen. According to several different outlets Criag is currently in talks to play the lead role in the remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. This is a role that Brad Pitt has been circling, but if Craig is close to signing onto the film perhaps Pitt is no longer interested. As of right now there are no official offers out to anyone, so the part can technically still go to anyone. The character is journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who is looking for the missing woman named Harriet Banger.

As for the female lead in the film Lisbeth Salander, a computer hacker recruited by a journalist to find a woman who has been missing for 40 years. Carey Mulligan was circling the role at one point, but has moved on to other projects. It's also known that both Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman have expressed interest in taking on the role. I would definitely chose Portman over Knightley.

David Fincher is set to direct the highly acclaimed crime thriller, based on a trilogy by the late Swedish novelist and journalist Stieg Larsson. The movie is scheduled to start shooting in October, and is slated for release in December 2011. He will start production on the film after he is finished with The Social Network.

There was a Danish film adaptation of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo that was released last year, which was a great film. For those of you that don't know what the story is about here is a synopsis from the book.

A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue.

It’s about the disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden . . . and about her octogenarian uncle, determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder.

It’s about Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently at the wrong end of a libel case, hired to get to the bottom of Harriet’s disappearance . . . and about Lisbeth Salander, a twenty-four-year-old pierced and tattooed genius hacker possessed of the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age—and a terrifying capacity for ruthlessness to go with it—who assists Blomkvist with the investigation. This unlikely team discovers a vein of nearly unfathomable iniquity running through the Vanger family, astonishing corruption in the highest echelons of Swedish industrialism—and an unexpected connection between themselves.

It’s a contagiously exciting, stunningly intelligent novel about society at its most hidden, and about the intimate lives of a brilliantly realized cast of characters, all of them forced to face the darker aspects of their world and of their own lives.

What do you think about Daniel Craig possibly being cast in the lead role?
