Adam Brody, Marley Shelton, and Erik Knudsen Cast in SCREAM 4

Movie CastingScream by Joey Paur

Adam Brody, Marley Shelton and Erik Knudsen have all joined the cast of Wes Craven's Scream 4. With the addition of three new actors we lose another one, Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham has dropped out leaving the role of Emma Roberts' mother character open.

The film started shooting this week, and it's hit a couple snags in the casting arena with Graham and Lake Bell both dropping out of the film due to scheduling conflicts. But the film is moving forward, and the good thing about actors is they are easy to replace. I don't think there's a shortage of actors in the world.

Brody will play a cop recently graduated from college who was raised on the CSI TV series, which should make for a fun character. As for Knudsen, he will have a role similar to the one played by Jamie Kennedy in the first two installments of Scream, a character who is familiar with horror movie conventions and a provider of comic relief. I thought Hayden Panettiere took that type of role as the film geek in the story, but the more geeks in the film the better! Shelton will be Bell's replacement as the deputy who knew Sidney in high school.

Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox, are back to reprise their roles from the original films, but the plan is to pass the franchise on to a new generation of slasher victims, which also includes Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin and Nico Tortorella.

According to THR "to preserve the identity of the killer, Craven and Williamson are operating under several layers of secrecy, including not sending the script to agencies. At a table read last week, the actors were told to stop reading at page 75 to prevent even those already cast in the film from knowing the climax."

I really hope to hell with how crazy internet leaks are these days that the identity of the killer actually stays secret! I don't want to know! I like to speculate, but I don't want to know for sure until I see the movie! Lets hope these security measures that Craven and Williamson have set in place will actually work. I don't want this movie ruined for me damn it!

I wonder if they will have some footage to show in time for Comic-Con?
