Kenneth Branagh Talks about Thor's Hammer and Costume Problems

There seems to be a lot of mixed feelings surrounding the look of the costumes in Marvel's upcoming film Thor. There are those that don't like them, then there are people like me that think they look great. The real test will be when we finally actually see the costumes in action up on the big screen, which we'll get our first look at at Comic-Con this year. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kenneth Branagh talked about the look of the Hammer.

The look of the hammer was the first conversation I had the day I started the job. We had conversations about how the Hammer looked the night before shooting, during shooting, the look of the hammer and how to shoot it. We're still talking about the hammer.

Obviously Thor's Hammer is something that they really wanted to get right in the making of this film. From the images we've seen of the hammer, it looks good to me. Branagh went on to talk about a problem that they had with Thor's costume.

Thor's suit was bloody hot for the first week they didn't have a cooling system in it. They had to add a t-shirt with water tubes sticking out.

Wow, that would suck! The costumes these guys are wearing definitely don't look comfortable, but to be stuck in something like that on a hot day with no cooling system would be a nightmare! Of course if any of us got to play Thor, and were getting paid to do we wouldn't be complaining about anything, right?

EW also provided a slightly updated synopsis of the movie:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, “Thor,” which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
