LOST's Damon Lindelof to Rewrite ALIEN Prequel?

It's being reported that Lost Writer/producer Damon Lindelof has taken his very first solo screenwriting gig. It looks like he's closed a deal with FOX to do a re-write on Ridley Scott's upcoming Alien prequel! 20th Century Fox is hoping that this film will be Scott's next big directing gig, and I am too!

According to Deadline, "studio insiders said that while Lindelof indeed met with Scott and the studio for that rewrite job, the exchange of ideas between them sparked a take that could well turn out to be a free-standing science fiction film. The studio will decide when Lindelof turns it in." Ummm... awesome!

Apparently Lindelof is extremely excited about this opportunity because the original Alien has had a big influence on him and his career. Lindelof is currently co-writing Paramount's Star Trek sequel, and he also most recently worked on Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens, which is currently shooting.

This Alien prequel is a film that I'm very excited about, especially with Scott on board to direct. Now that the film has brought in a fun and talented screenwriter I'm even more excited to see what is going to come of this. I love that they have an idea of it being a "free-standing science fiction film."

What do you think about Lindelof re-writing the Alien prequel?
