Movie Review: THE EXPENDABLES... Action-Packed Badassery
I tend not to read any reviews before I got out and see a movie that I’ve been looking forward to seeing so that I can go into it fresh, and come out of it with my own opinion. I usually will read what people had to say after I watched it, which is exactly what I did with Sylvester Stallone’s new action film The Expendables, and unfortunately it seems like the film isn’t really getting a lot of love out there. Come on people! It's an action film! What did you expect?
If you’ve seen the trailer for the film, then you know exactly what to expect because it shows you what you’re going to get when you go out and see this movie. So if you liked what you saw in the trailers chances are you’re going to enjoy the movie, if you didn’t like it then I suspect you wouldn’t go see it anyway.
I thought The Expendables was one hell of a badass balls-to-the-walls action flick! I had a blast watching this movie! It’s pretty much everything that I expected it to be, and is by far one of the best late 80’s early 90’s action films I’ve ever seen! I don’t mean that in a negative way either. It was one of those films that just took me back in time, and made me feel like a kid again... a kid that would watch hardcore rated ‘R’ action films.
This movie brought together one of the greatest testosterone filled casts ever assemble in a movie with Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Giselle Itie, Bruce Willis, Eric Roberts, David Zayas, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steve Austin. Their purpose... to entertain the hell out of us! This movie has some pretty freakin’ awesome fight and action sequences, and if you need a reason to go see this movie then go seeing for the action-packed badassery! You wont be disappointed in that. The fight scenes are hardcore and brutal, and I couldn’t help but enjoy watching some of these people getting getting totally obliterated. There is some inventive bone smashing stuff they came up with for this movie that had the audience cheering.
Sure as a whole film it had some weak points with some stale storytelling and bad dialogue, but what are you expecting from this film? Going into it you should know that the story and dialogue is going to be a bit weak. It’s not going to be nominated for an Oscar, unless they started giving out Oscars for best badass film! Stallone tried to add some emotional weight to these characters, and I think he did an okay job doing it. The movie also had some fun humor thrown in, especially at the expense of Jet Li's character and his size. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen Jason Statham smile so much in a movie before. Stallone must have went out of his way and told Statham that he had such a great smile, and that he should do it more in the movie. I also really enjoyed Lundgren's character in the film. I actually wish he would have been in it more. There's also a great fight seen in the film between him and Li.
The reason we go out to watch a movies like this is for the action, and The Expendables delivers that to us in every way imaginable! Stallone took this awesome cast of action stars and successfully made a fun badass action film that you can enjoy if you can watch it for what it is.
I’m going to go ahead and recommend that you go out and see this movie. I’m sure there are some of you that aren’t going to like it as much as I did, but it’s worth seeing this cast come together to blow shit up and kick some ass, so enjoy!
If you’ve already seen it what did you think!?
