Emile Hirsch and Matthew McConaughey will star in a new dark comedy called Killer Joe. The film will be directed by William Friedkin (Rules of Engagement) from a script written by Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning writer Tracy Letts.
According to THR the film follows a brother (Hirsch) and sister combo who plot the death of their mother for the insurance money and hire "Killer Joe" Cooper, a cop and contract killer (McConaughey) to do the deed.
The film will start shooting on November 8th in and around New Orleans.
I honestly never thought I would see Hirsch and McConaughey starring in a movie together, but it should be interesting to see them work together. I'm not the biggest McConaughey fan, the guy just seems to pick crappy movie projects these days. Maybe this will be different, because Hirsch tends to pick decent film projects. The plot definitely sounds like an interestingly dark tale.
