Movie Review: MACHETE

ReviewMovie Machete by Joey Paur

If your looking for a crazy fun, violent, action-packed, extremely bloody time at the movies then look no further, because Machete has got everything you need for a ridiculously good time at the movies!

It seems like there is a good amount of people that have been looking forward to seeing this film, and to those people that have enjoyed watching the movie trailers and film clips you won’t be disappointed in this movie, because it delivers on everything you expected to see and more.

There were things that happen in this film that surprised the hell out of me! Even though I’ve watched everything that’s been released by the studio there was still some crazy ass stuff that I wasn’t expecting, and damn it was fun! I’m not going to spoil it for you because these things should be kept as a surprise.

The first part of the film was one of the best and most brutal parts of the movie. One of my main complaints is that the rest of the movie couldn’t keep up with the way the movie started. Don’t get me wrong! It was still an awesome movie to watch, and it had some amazing moments, but the rest of the film just didn’t continue the extremely jacked up momentum the we see during the fist part of the movie.

Don’t expect a great script or good acting in the film because it truly is a B-movie grindhouse film. You are going out to see this movie because Danny Trejo goes out to kick some major ass and spill buckets of blood as Machete, a renegade former Mexican Federale. After a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Steven Seagal) Machete ends up roaming the street of Texas, and he ends up reluctantly taking an offer to assassinate McLaughlin (Robert De Niro) a corrupt Senator, from his own advisor Benz (Jeff Fahey). Machete is double crossed and goes on the run. He braves the odds with the help of Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Cheech Marin) his "holy" brother, and April (Lindsey Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Jessica Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.

This story was built around the current immigration issues. I thought it was an appropriate setting for the film and it worked, but when I was walking out of the theater I  listened to a few people talking about the movie being way too preachy on the subject, and that it was overkill. So I guess how you feel about the issues used in the film will depend on what you think about this whole immigration thing going on.

Regardless of what you think about the whole immigration issue, this was a fun movie that not only had a good amount of insanity, but also had a lot of humor that we can sit back and laugh at. Sure, there is some dark humor, but what do you expect from Rodriguez? That's what he does!

I’m going to go ahead and recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys watching these types of films. Not everyone is going to like this movie, it was made for a specific demented audience. So if you're a little nuts in the head like myself and enjoy watching people getting brutally obliterated with a machete then you’ll get a kick out of it.

If you’ve seen the movie already tell us what you thought!
