Small Press Expo This Weekend In Washington, DC Area
If you will be in the Washington, DC area this weekend you should consider hitting the Small Press Expo, right outside DC in Bethesda, MD. It's an annual convention celebrating the little guys in comics. You won't really see Marvel or DC represented here; smaller companies like Top Shelf and Fantagraphics regularly set up vending tables at the event. The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund will be represented as well. The exhibitors will include everything from writers and artists who have managed to get published by one of the bigger small presses to little guys who have gotten lucky enough to do a smaller project for one of the Big Two to people who had an idea they put down on paper then went to Kinko's in the middle of the night to xerox and staple copies together themselves. In years past people such as Frank Miller, Jeff Smith, Tony Millionaire, Mike Mignola, and Harvey Pekar have attended. Check out this year's list of exhibitors here. I plan to wander the floor, look for whatever catches my eye, chat with creators, and cover the event in some way, so stay tuned.
