Reasons Behind Nicolas Cage Not Starring In THE GREEN HORNET

The Green Hornet arrives this week from director Michel Gondry starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz. Before Gondry took on the film it was in development with Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) and Nicolas Cage in the lead.

The New York Times posted a story on the new superhero film talked about the current film and touched on Chow's version. Cage was still attached to the film when Gondry took over and we learned the reasons why he finally left the film.

Gondry mentioned a strange detail about Cage's take on the role:

For reasons known only to him, he insisted on using a Jamaican accent. "I was quite relieved when he announced he no longer wanted the part," Mr. Gondry said.

When I read this my intial reaction was WTF!!!. A rastafarian Green Hornet is just odd. Cage could have been not taking the part seriously after Chow's departure or he could just have been acting his odd normal self. Regardless, I am digging the look and feel of the new film. I can't wait to see it.
