Writer Hired For LETHAL WEAPON Remake Heading For A "Hard R"

Yesterday we reported that Warner Bros. was developing a bunch of remakes/reboots, including a remake of Lethal Weapon

Mel Gibson has reportedly passed on the idea of a Lethal Weapon 5 despite Shane Black's involvment. This has caused Warner Bros. to work on a full reboot of the franchise. Will Beall, the writer of Tales From the Gangster Squad has been hired to based on his pitch for a “hard R-rated edgy street cop movie.”

As a fan of the original films I am not upset with Gibson's decision to move on from the franchise. I personally was not that fond of the last film. Shane Black is a great writer, but I think the original franchise is better left where it is. I am not too fond of the idea of rebooting the series. I can not see anyone else int the roles played by Danny Glover and Mel Gibson.

Why not just create a completely new film revolving around cops in LA?  I do not see the point in rebooting the franchise.  What are your thoughts on this news?
